Register for A2P 10DLC (US business texting)
Register your business with US carriers so AIVA can send texts from your 10-digit number, and understand each registration status.
US carriers require businesses to register before they send texts from a standard 10-digit phone number. This is called A2P 10DLC ("application-to-person, 10-digit long code"). Until your registration is approved, texting from your US numbers stays switched off. Calls are not affected. You need a connected Twilio account and your business's legal details. If you only use numbers outside the US, or you don't plan to text, you can skip this guide.
What gets registered
Registration has two parts. AIVA submits both to the carriers through your Twilio account.
- Brand: who your business is (legal name, type, tax ID, address and a contact).
- Campaign: what you'll send (the kind of messages, real examples, and how people agree to get them).
There is one registration per AIVA account. It covers all your numbers.
How to know you need it
On Communication → My Numbers, a number that can text but isn't registered yet shows Texting pending under Capabilities. The page also shows a notice: Texting registration is in review. Once you're approved, the number shows Texting ready.
1. Open the registration form
In the sidebar, open AI Configuration → AI Training and select the Business Texting Registration tab. At the top you'll see two badges, Brand and Campaign, each with its current status.
2. Fill in "Your business"
These details must match your official registration exactly. The carriers check them.
- Legal business name: required.
- Business type: Sole proprietor (no EIN needed), Private company, Public company, Non-profit or Government.
- EIN / Tax ID: required unless you're a sole proprietor.
- Website, Street, City, State / region, Postal code and Country.
- Contact first name, Contact last name, Contact email (required) and Contact phone.
3. Fill in "What you will send"
The carriers read this part closely. Use real examples of messages you actually send.
- Use case: for most businesses, Mixed (most businesses). Other options include Customer care, Account notifications, Delivery notifications, Marketing, Security alerts, Two-factor authentication and Low volume.
- What these messages are for: at least 40 characters.
- Sample message 1 and Sample message 2: real examples, at least 20 characters each. Include opt-out wording such as "Reply STOP to opt out."
- How people opt in: at least 40 characters. Say exactly how customers give you their number and agree to texts, for example a consent box on your intake form. Campaigns that can't answer this are rejected.
- Turn on Messages contain links and Messages contain phone numbers if your texts include them.
4. Save, then submit
- Click Save details. You'll see Details saved. They have not been sent to the carriers yet.
- Click Submit to carriers. You'll see Sent to the carriers for review.
If Submit to carriers is greyed out, the form shows Save your details before submitting.
Approval is up to the carriers, not AIVA, and review times vary. Status changes only when Twilio reports a new result.
5. Check your status
Click Check status to get the latest result from the carriers. Each badge shows one of these statuses:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Not submitted | Saved in AIVA, or not started. Nothing has gone to the carriers yet. |
| Submitted | Sent and waiting to be picked up for review. |
| Under carrier review | The carriers are reviewing it. |
| Approved | Done. The panel shows Registered. Texting is enabled for this workspace. |
| Rejected | The carriers turned it down. The reason is shown on the panel. |
The campaign can only be approved after the brand is approved, so the Brand badge usually changes first.
Troubleshooting
My registration was rejected. Read the reason on the panel. The most common problems are a business name or tax ID that doesn't match official records, vague sample messages, or a missing opt-in description. Fix the fields, click Save details, then Submit to carriers again.
I need to change an approved registration. Once approved, the form is locked. The message This registration is already approved. Contact support to change a registered brand. explains why. Email support@aivachat.io.
I see "Twilio is not configured for this workspace." Add your Twilio credentials first. See Connect Twilio and a phone number.
